I have always considered sales figures to be commercially sensitive and confidential, but recently 'in another place' it was implied (admittedly by somebody with an axe to grind) that sales of BBC BASIC for Windows had collapsed.

As evidence that this is not the case, here is a barchart showing relative sales over the past 15 years. It's true that annual figures are down to less than half what they were at their peak, but all things considered the decline is quite gradual.

The chart is based on a count of sales transactions, so a multi-user site-licence counts the same as an individual purchase. Only recently a school bought a 60-user licence!

Incidentally I have deliberately quantised the lengths of the bars to make it impossible to determine the absolute sales numbers by taking accurate measurements off the chart. tongue

Richard.

Glad to see BBC4W remains strong. With the additional tools you created for android and the Raspberry pie 3.. It should have a surge in popularity .

I like reinventing the wheel, but for now I will work on tools for D3D
