xx Pasting from Microsoft Edge
« Thread started on: Apr 3rd, 2017, 10:33pm »

As I'm sure many people must have noticed, copying-and-pasting BASIC code, from a web page displayed in Microsoft's Edge browser, often results in a garbled program containing many spurious EVAL keywords.

The explanation for this behaviour is that the token value for EVAL is &A0, which happens to be the ANSI code for a soft space character. Other browsers, including Internet Explorer, sensibly convert soft spaces to hard spaces (code &20) when copying a block of text onto the clipboard, so the problem does not occur.

I'm of the opinion that this behaviour of Edge is a bug, or certainly an unwanted feature, and it would be nice to think it might be fixed at some point, but I'm not hopeful.

Richard.
